Inaugural champion Bob Anderson believes he will be just as tough to beat in next year's Betfred.com League of Legends as he was in the 2008 series.
The Limestone Cowboy was unbeaten in this year's event, winning six and drawing the other three of the nine matches he played, and demonstrated why he had been at the top of the betting throughout the event.
A 10-4 victory over Keith Deller in the final at Purfleet's Circus Tavern secured the trophy and £15,000 first prize for Anderson, who is determined to make a staunch defence of his title.
"I think in the final against Keith I laid down a pretty big marker to show what I was capable of," said Anderson, whose three-dart average of 91.86 in that match was the highest of the entire competition.
"Okay, I'll be a year older next year but the passion won't have diminished one jot. I'm really looking forward to defending the trophy."
Anderson is also adamant that the Betfred.com League of Legends will thrive in the future after the opening year proved a great success, being extremely well received by darts fans, television viewers and the media.
"I see no reason why it shouldn't get bigger and better next year," said the Clevedon-based veteran.
"We knew the tournament had good organisation behind it, a great sponsor and a terrific team pushing it. All the players had to do was go up on stage and perform and I think we might have surprised a few people by the way we did perform."
